Pinecone Firelighters Scented with Orange and Cinnamon

Well this isn’t a recipe in the sense of making something to eat, but for those of you who have wood burners or an open fire it is worth knowing about.   I used to buy something very similar to these and it never occurred to me that you could make them yourself until my friend Rachel sent me a photo of some she had made.  I had to have a go and I was delighted with the results. These are so quick and easy to do.  Not only that but they are cheap to make, look good, smell wonderful and do the job.  Brilliant

Ingredients (makes 12)

  • 12 tealights
  • 12 pinecones
  • 12 paper or silicone cupcake cases
  •  Optional – essential oils of your choice (I used orange and cinnamon oils)

Method

  1. Place the cake cases into a 12 hole cake tin
  2. Remove the foil from the tea lights and put one in each case
  3. Put into oven to melt (I set mine for 160c)
  4. Remove from oven and carefully move wicks over to side in the melted wax
  5. Add a few drops of essential oil to each
  6. Nestle in pinecone making sure the wick is visible at the side
  7. Leave to cool
  8. When wax has set peel off wrappers.

NB If you wrap 6 of these in cellophane they make a great hostess gift for someone with a fire
